North Carolina: Churches Associated with 76 COVID-19 Outbreaks, 1,040 Cases, and 13 Deaths

As of October 21, NC will report clusters by location. Since May, religious gatherings have accounted for 76 clusters, 1040 cases and 13 deaths. According to the data shown in the chart below, religious gatherings are the third greatest source of cases associated with clusters behind meat packing plants and colleges.

I reported similar numbers from Georgia a few weeks ago.  I am keeping track of outbreaks in churches at this page:

Churches and the Spread of COVID-19

As of October 22, 2020, I count 552 religious gatherings associated with at least 6,724 cases of COVID-19 and 88 deaths in the U.S.

While Sean Feucht and others engage in potential superspreader events around the country, some churches are dealing with serious outbreaks and death of members.

    1. Public health officials are investigating the outbreak and said they will work closely with the church to help limit transmission of the coronavirus in the church, which has an estimated attendance of 7,000.

Public officials showing MacArthur’s church what Christ-like behavior really looks like? Imagine that…

    3. According to the yahoo article, unless I missed something — it said Three confirmed cases. That is hardly an outbreak (more could be coming). And that doesn’t mean that they got it at church. We need to wait and gather more information before letting panic set in.

      1. It’s the lowest number that needs reporting to the county health department. It would not surprise me in the least to learn that GCC didn’t do the reporting, but that someone else dropped a dime on GCC. P.S. There’s a solution to this, and it’s not being a jerk and insisting on gathering during a pandemic. It just makes churches look high and mighty and not really caring about people.

        1. John MacArthur was already forced to step down from his leadership position at The Master’s University due in part to his dishonesty and mishandling of sexual assault victims, meanwhile his institution remains on probation and at risk of losing accreditation.

So MacArthur certainly does have a history of self-serving dishonesty and misconduct.

          1. While I harbor no ill will toward those infected, and hope they make a full recovery, I do like the smell of karma in the morning.

  1. From the linked page:
    552 churches,
    6724 COVID infections,
    86 deaths as of today.

That’s an average of 12 infections per church with a 1.3% Case Fatality Rate.

  2. A total of 10% of the clusters in NC.
ONE IN TEN OF THE OUTBREAKS.
