While the Kurds Fear, Donald Trump Revels in His “Great and Unmatched Wisdom”

There is no bottom.

Maybe this will be the 25th Amendment moment. Congressional Republicans and evangelicals are all up in arms about Donald Trump’s decision to leave Northern Syria wide open for Turkish forces to engage the Kurds. Even though the Kurds fought with us against ISIS, Turkey views them as terrorists and wants to wipe them. Trump has stood aside after a call with Turkey’s strongman leader, Erdogan.

The “great and unmatched wisdom” line is the headline grabber but also insane is the threat to obliterate Turkey’s economy if they go “off limits.” There is a megalomania here that is frightening.

UPDATE: This is an extraordinary message from the DOD:

    1. This is Rand Paul, remember.
Long ago, I stopped trying to figure out what galaxy that guy is calling from.

  1. Oh, Warren:
    NOT “While the Kurds Fear”
“While the Kurds Die like the Armenians a century before them”.

  2. Great wisdom? Not even a little bit. Unmatched? True. We have never before had a president so abysmally ignorant, impulsive, and unwilling to listen to advice. With luck, and some new campaign laws, we will never have another. Nixon might have been considerably unhinged toward the end of his presidency, but he was orders of magnitude more intelligent than Trump.

  3. Anglo-Saxon politics is in crisis.

Trumpy-Pumpy and Bonking Boris are just running wild. Maybe the big question right now is: will the forthcoming economic recession (fueled by TP’s trade wars and BB’s Brexit) wake people up to the reality or make matters worse?

    1. Have you ever heard of a Seventies pop psych book called Games People Play? A companion to the better-known I’m OK, You’re OK, it coined the term “Mind Games”.

One of the Mind Games it catalogs is called “Tough Guy”, where a small or weak man hangs out with REAL Tough Guys and imitates them to show How Tough I Am (Really! I Am!). The type example I they gave was that of street kids hanging out with hardened criminals.

I see this Tough Guy dynamic at work with “Trumpy-Pumpy”.
      Putin is a Tough Guy.
      Duterte is a Tough Guy.
      Erdogan is a Tough Guy.

  4. Fear Not! REVERENDS Robert Jeffress, Franklin Graham, and Jerry Falwell Junior are out-praising each other adoring such Great And Unmatched Wisdom. For only one can be Court Favorite sitting at the Great And Unmatched Wise One’s Right Hand.

  5. The Rapture Ready crowd will be creaming their pants with glee.

Abandoning Syria means Russia gets Syria (with a war with NATO Turkey in the bargain) that clears the End Times invasion route for Gog & Magog and may trigger the nuclear war that kicks off Armageddon.

(Yes, I did get my head messed up by The Gospel According to Hal Lindsay and Jack Chick. How ever could you guess?)

      1. Not familiar with the name.

But my writing partner (the burned-out country preacher, who went through a similar End Times mania experience) credits John Nelson Darby and Hal Lindsay with “destroying Protestant Christianity in America”.

        1. Dwight Pentecost was a Theologian at Dallas Theological Seminary. He wrote a book called “Things To Come” that I would recommend to anyone who wants to understanding the Premill, Pretrib view. It can be viewed on Amazon.

  6. You know it’s bad when the best defense the Republicans can come up with is that Trump is only saying these things to troll the press…

    1. Tell that to the Kurds.
Turkey’s Final Solution to the Kurd Problem is underway, starting with saturation bombing.

But hey, getting a Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade, put Prayer back in schools, and establish a CHRISTIAN Nation is worth all those Kurdish lives, isn’t it?

  7. “Maybe this will be the 25th Amendment moment.”

    Not holding my breath…
The rotten-to-the-core GOP House and Senate, and its Evangelical backing, is clampened onto the teat-of-power. Will they let go, even for the good of the country?

    I doubt it.

    1. The GOP in House and Senate are peeing their pants in fear of Trump’s Base. All it takes is one Presidential Twitter Tweet to enrage the Base and ruin them permanently.

And Trump has said his re-election strategy for 2020 is to whip his Base to even greater heights of fanaticism and ignore everyone else. Let the Base carry it all.

And Christians(TM) are the most fanatical of the Base. When everything is over, THAT is one thing people will remember.

  8. Surprised to see the deplorable millionaire, Pat Robertson again. Good to know Trump’s child concentration camps didn’t put his “mandate of heaven” at risk.

  10. I think there are more than a few Christians in there numbers or at least this is what I have heard from some Christian critics of this move. Syrian Christians are likely to be killed.

      1. And Syrian Christians are Eastern/Oriental Rite, NOT Altar Call Evangelicals.

THAT’s what makes it puzzling; by Evangelical definitions, they’re NOT REAL(TM) Christians!

        1. And I would say even the ones showing up at our southern border don’t really cost evangelicals anything either… I believe a study has shown that those most fearful of immigrants interact with said refugees/immigrants the least… so it’s likely the evangelicals who are the most hard-line on immigration are actually living in areas not really impacted by immigration that much.

          1. I believe a study has shown that those most fearful of immigrants interact with said refugees/immigrants the least…

            That’s a common pattern.
Especially if the immigrants they interact with make some effort to integrate/assimilate. Speaking English (or at least making a good attempt) seems to be the key; if the immigrants speak English (even accented) and make some effort to fit in, a lot of Americans will cut them some slack.

        2. The exact same dynamic as the over-Woke libs they so despise:

As Strauss & Howe put it in 13th Gen, “Solidarity with oppressed peoples they never ever have to meet in real life”.

Their concern/activism is for their Fantasy, NOT the real people. As long as the Kurds stay far far away, they never have to put their money where their mouth is.

    1. It seems somehow twisted that one must be a Christian before a Christian will be truly concerned about one’s life being threatened.
