Therapist Describes Colorful Method to Determine Changes in Gay Brains

Brain scans? We don’t need no stinking brain scans!
At least Jerry Mungadze doesn’t. Crayons and markers on a map of the brain tells him all he needs to know about personality and sexuality.
Last week, I posted about Mungadze’s appearance on the Joni Show telling Joni, Joe Dallas and David Kyle Foster that the brains of his patients go straight as the result of his approach. I wondered at the time how he could support that claim with brain assessment. It turns out that he fully filled in the audience of Foster’s Pure Passion on his methods. Hint: He doesn’t demonstrate how to read MRI results. The full version can be viewed on You Tube here and here. For a brief excerpt of part two, see below:

Note that patients color in a map of the brain and Mungadze reads the map like a projective test. Apparently, pink relates to femininity, red to anger/aggression, and so on. He says he can tell gay people apart from straights; and when they revert to heterosexuality, he can tell by how they color between the lines.
Who needs brain scans when you have crayons?

Mungadze’s is best known for his work in trauma and dissociative identity disorder (DID). His most famous patient is football star Herschel Walker, who wrote a book citing Mungadze’s help to overcome DID. Mungadze wrote the forward.
As for the theory of the brain revealing itself via colors chosen by patients, I know of nothing to support it. Projective tests in general are not reliable and this one in particular looks like a method invented by Mungadze without reference to research or validation.
The offer from Michael Bailey to send patients for real brain scans still stands. They can even bring crayons.

  1. “”Dr. Mungadze received a BS in Bible from Dallas Bible College in Dallas, Texas, an MA in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas, and a Ph.D. in counselor education with a minor in psychology from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. ”
From the UNT Dept of Psychology:
“The Counseling Psychology program trains professional psychologists within the context of the scientist-professional model. In adopting the scientist-practitioner (Boulder) model as its training focus, the faculty expects students to be able to: 1) apply scientific thinking to assessment and counseling processes, 2) value and comprehend rigorous treatment outcome research, 3) engage in interventions that are scientifically defensible, 4) informally and formally collect outcome data on the psychological services they provide, and 5) make scientific contributions that seek to understand, prevent, or treat psychological dysfunction and/or promote well being. “

  2. If he came to my Sunday School, he could use felt-tip pens. But I would tell him off if he drew naughty pictures!

  4. We could still run an experiment.
    To repeat:
We need several cohorts for such an experiment.
Start with 3 groups, one (A) gay about to go through Mudzenga’s therapy, one gay and not going through it (B), one control (C).
Expectation: A and B will show similarities with each other, and both show differences from C.
    Then post-M treatment,
    1) B should show differences from A
    2) B should show similarities to C
    3) A should show same differences from C as before.
    4) C should show no change.
The only difference is, instead of MRI images, we’d have 2-D cartoons of brains that have been crayoned in.
“Doctor” M should be able to distinguish (A) and (B) from (C) before treatment, and (B) and (C) from (A) afterwards – even if no-one else can.
Ideally, we’d have MRI imaging too. Imagine if we got a statistically valid correlation – how useful that would be, a whole new area of psychology to investigate, that overturns everything we think we know.
Imagine how useful flying pigs would be too. Or if you could use Snakes as a source of Oil.
Now I may be rightfully accused of being a cynic… but somehow…and this is just a hunch mind you… I don’t think “Doctor” M would agree to this experimental setup.
I say “Doctor” because I can’t see that an MA in Biblical Studies meets any of the requirements to start a PhD in Counseling, Psychology, Education, Educational Counseling etc etc at NWT. But maybe they made an exception for his work experience.

  7. Wow, you can actually comment/rate the above video. Go to YT, everyone, and let them know what you think of this so-called “brain assessment” (Mungadze, get your own brain assessed!)

  8. This would be (ahem) hysterical (see re “women w/ floating wombs”!), if it weren’t so tragic.

  11. I’m a big fan of orange, green, and blue…. wonder what Mungadze would make of that.

  13. Let’s keep in mind that until very recently, Exodus was still endorsing NARTH whose “science” is nearly as ridiculous — for example using gay porn and EMDR to reduce “unwanted SSA”.

BTW: I wonder if this researcher gave his subjects the 64 count pack. It might have skewed the results. I understand that gay guys have more names for colors than their straight counterparts.

  14. Randy – Get out your big box of 100 colors and color you a brain. Then we will know what you are thinking.

  15. “They can even bring crayons” . . . I am still laughing!!!!!!!!
I feel so very sorry for those who take any of this seriously. I foresee this mess being instrumental for future therapy sessions for patients with *real* therapists/counselors. God, help those patients.
