Exodus International Withdraws from Exodus Global Alliance

The Exodus International Board of Directors officially voted to withdraw from the Exodus Global Alliance (EGA) May 28, 2013 after 18 years of membership.  Exodus International was a founding member of EGA in 1995.  This change in relationship releases both ministries to serve the Lord, the Church and their constituents in ways that honor their respective calling.

EGA is the worldwide coalition of “Exodus” ministries, which seek to work together under one umbrella structure.  In 2005 Exodus Europe withdrew from EGA, as well.
Exodus International wishes to thank Bryan Kliewer, the EGA Board and network of ministries for their longstanding partnership and friendship.
This is a significant move as Exodus Global Alliance is more geared to the orientation change paradigm. Since Exodus is moving away from that paradigm, this move makes sense.

  1. Boo: Excellent question. One we asked him on camera during the Lisa Ling show taping. He had a hard time answering. It seems to be moving towards a smaller, celibacy support network of some kind.
    David: I think that both organizations will drop the name “Exodus”. It’s too tainted with negative connotations. I don’t Restored Hope Network wants it and I don’t think the new “Exodus” (whatever it might become) does either.

  2. I noticed this morning that the link to Exodus Global Alliance has indeed been removed from the Exodus International homepage, but EGA is still linking to Exodus International from their homepage.

  3. But shouldn’t they change their name .. since they are no longer associated with Exodus?

  5. This also helps to fulfill a promise Alan Chambers made over a year ago — to cut ties with any organization that has ministries or affiliates in countries where homosexuality is a crime. I wonder how many of the EGA ministries will now affiliate with Restored Hope Network since RHN refuses to oppose criminalization?

  6. It is interesting at this juncture to pause and reflect on how different the situation is now versus just 10 years ago (5 years ago). No FOTF Love Won Out and Exodus has moved from the change paradigm and may move into something else entirely. Only NARTH remains and is dramatically weakened as we speak.

    1. While RHN shouldn’t be ignored, they will never be as influential (or harmful) as Exodus was in the past. Attitudes about homosexuality have changed significantly over the last decade. Organizations like RHN and NARTH are now going to be recognized as fringe groups by the vast majority of people.

      1. Who cares if they’re recognised as fringe by the vast majority, if the legislators and powerbrokers don’t? NARTH has become even more the “go to” organisation by religious groups now it as less competition. It’s being quoted by both Catholic and Baptist sources more than ever before.

          More and more politicians are supporting gay marriage/rights. 2 states have (or proposed) laws banning SOCE for minors. It is becoming a political liability to claim you are anti-gay rights. So how do you get that the legislators don’t consider NARTH a fringe group? Citing NARTH as a source is becoming as much of a liability as citing creationist/intelligent design sources. Yes, there will still be some who do it, but they won’t be taken seriously by the majority of people.

          Do you have some actual evidence of this? Or are you just making assumptions? And to be clear, being quoted more by fewer people doesn’t discount what I said.
