Straw Poll Results Make Values Voter Summit Look Fringe

Here are the results of today’s Values Voter Straw Poll:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) has won Family Research Council Action’s fourth-ever Values Voter Summit Straw Poll. Businessman Herman Cain finished in second place and former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) finished third.
The following are the straw poll results:
Presidential Candidate Name Total Votes Percentage:
Michele Bachmann 157 8%
Herman Cain 447 23%
Newt Gingrich 54 3%
Jon Huntsman 2 0%
Ron Paul 732 37%
Rick Perry 167 8%
Mitt Romney 88 4%
Rick Santorum 323 16%
Undecided 13 1%

Does anyone think Ron Paul is going to take the GOP nomination? Is Rick Santorum really third in the race? Romney and Cain lead the polls I have seen and Cain did well here. Romney however, is going to do much better in the GOP primaries than he did here.

  1. Warren you did see this Press Conferrence from the Southern Poverty Law Center where they mention YOU, right? The press conference was about the bogus Value Voters Conference.

Many thoughtful Christian commentators have said as much. Warren Throckmorton, a respected professor and past president of the American Mental Health Counselors Association, wrote last year that “the newly labeled hate groups” were seeking to “avoid addressing the issues the SPLC raised, instead preferring to attack the credibility of the SPLC.” After reviewing an SPLC list of myths propagated by anti-gay, religious-right groups, he said many are “provably false” and “rooted in ignorance.”
The SPLC’s criticisms, Throckmorton concluded, are “legitimate and have damaged the credibility of the groups on the list. Going forward, I hope Christians don’t rally around these groups but rather call them to accountability.”

    PROPS Warren, PROPS!

  2. Will the Republicans be ready for November 2012? They look very divided to me.
Back in 2007, the view – for what it’s worth – inside the British Embassy in Washington DC was that Romney was the best candidate for the Republican nomination in 2008.
I still can’t see why some seem to hate Obama so much. He’s so moderate in so many ways. Is it a ‘race’ thing, do you think? I hope not, but do wonder sometimes. (Mind you, there appeared also to be an irrational hatred of Clinton in the 1990s.)

  5. Was Ron Paul even there? And do they know his more libertarian views are at odds with Fischer?
On the other hand 3% for Gingrich? Is that about the hypocrisy of his prior divorces or anti-Catholic feeling? Or just Gingrich?
I see it was only 4% of the audience who gave that rather week applause to Romney after his remark about those crossing the line who would speak after him (ie Bryan Fischer).

  6. The only one I might come close to voting for gets 0% — only further affirms my move to the other party. Cain reminds me of a less capable version of Ross Perot, and I suspect the support for him comes from the same place. Ron Paul, yeah right.
