“(he’s right, of course, about the fact that the argument for “same-sex marriage” is the same as the argument for polygamy, in its core essence).”
No he isn’t. The reasons for denying civil marriage to gays are nothing like the reasons for denying polygamous civil marriage. The only thing that would be the same is that supporters of either have a right to petition the government (through the courts) to provide a constitutionally valid justification for denying such marriage.
Just as supporters of inter-racial marriage did.

  2. Of course he’s crazy there, on the First Amendment thing, and in the link, he expresses unsupportable opinions (may be true, may not be) about what would happen if polygamy is ever the law of the land (he’s right, of course, about the fact that the argument for “same-sex marriage” is the same as the argument for polygamy, in its core essence). At the same time he’s wrong about the First Amendment (and probably about some of those other folks you mention; I know he’s said some nutty stuff), he’s pretty much correct about the Mormon Church once you get beyond his wild guesses about the future.

  5. Byron: If you search for Fischer you will get an idea of the many things he thinks about Native Americans, Muslims, gays, people who forget to pay their fire tax, and any other religion other than Christianity. However, the most recent thing that may have tipped Romney toward the comment was when Fischer said Mormons aren’t protected by the First Amendment.

  6. Thanks, Stephen, but I’d like to read the actual quotes he’s made. Maybe your paraphrase is spot-on, I just don’t know and would love to read it.

  10. I’m curious what Fischer has said about Romney. The WP article didn’t make your point at all, I didn’t think; the others did, but didn’t say what Fischer’s transgressions were. I’d be interested…

  13. He received a rather weak applause when he said it. And then Romney got 4% of the vote.
The Latter-Day Saints have no values?
