Music city conference report: Day One

In Nashville and spent the afternoon and much of the evening getting ready for the Pre-conference workshop on Sexual Identity Therapy tomorrow morning. Musicians and microphones are everywhere here — even the airport — which in my mind is a good thing.

I was initially scheduled to be on the Mike and Juliet Morning Show thursday morning but was replaced by ex-gay therapist Jayson Graves. Although I think Jayson is a thoughtful guy, I was deemed a bit too measured for the event. And besides, he is younger and has more hair. I think that was the real reason. I was somewhat disappointed though because I wanted to tell my Juliet Huddy story. So y’all get to read it. Quite awhile back, I was interviewing a young man who was in distress over his homosexual attractions. In the interview, as is customary, I did a full assessment of sexuality and in so doing asked if he had any opposite sex attractions. He thought for a bit and said, he generally didn’t but there was one woman on TV he was attracted to “in that way.” When I asked who it was, he said, Juliet Huddy. I wonder if she would have blushed?

In honor of my surroundings, here is a bunch of country music talent all in one place…

  1. Eddy –

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. You have my deepest condolences, prayers and thoughts.

  2. Eddy,

I know we’ve had our differences, but I am terribly sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family!

  3. Hi Eddy,

I am so sorry to hear about your mom – thank you for letting me know. Knowing she was at peace is a wonderful blessing. I lost my brother last week and even though I knew it was a possibility, it still seems impossible – he was only 55. I am reminded that God’s perspective on life is eternity and what we have here is so temporary. Take care Eddy – have a safe trip back home and may your heart be peaceful.

  4. Eddy,

I’m glad to hear your mother passed peacefully. Will be thinking about you this weekend. Take care.

  5. Warren,

The cynic in me wonders if they perhaps opted for Jayson Graves over you in part because he doesn’t have a Ph.D. It seems to me these shows often like to pull out a pro-gay “expert” at the end to authoritatively “refute” all the “exgay nonsense” which has gone on before. That strategy is more effective if the pro-gay expert is the only “Dr.” in the lineup.

If they were really hoping for someone who wasn’t “measured”, I think they were sorely disappointed. Graves seemed very careful and moderate in what he said.

And yeah, there is the fact of his youth, hair, and looks.

  6. I tried several times last night and couldn’t get the video to click in. I got Johnny Cash and company but not the TV show.

    Ann-

Glad you dropped in. Was wondering how to let you know that mom passed away very early this morning. It was peaceful. She got to say ‘goodbye’ to everyone over the course of the past week. She was ready. Our ‘goodbyes’ were by phone but I had been to see her Mother’s Day weekend. I’ll likely be flying home tomorrow or Saturday.

  7. And while we’re on this… where-oh-where is Timothy Kincaid? He’s stalled at 620, one behind The legendary Anonymous. If I point out that David Blakeslee has posted over on the InterVarsity Press thread, will that give him impetus to post that legendary #621 or even follow up with a #622 and take the lead?

  8. LOL – the Juliet story was, um, cute!? Thankfully, I am not in a place to hear the country music 😉

  9. So much of this stuff just comes down to who has the best hair, doen’t it? *sigh*

I certainly appreciate the lightheartedness of this post…it’s been a TOUGH week over at XGW.

  10. Well anything might be better for Juliet than that hairy beast Gomez (see: http://www.mandjshow.com/meet.php?sectionID=1). At least she’s unmarried [snif, snif]. Maybe if she had a boy-cut…. nah.

Coming up Thursday – “Can You Choose To Be Gay or Straight? Inside the Controversial Topic” Evidently, Warren, you’re not insider enough!
